Bass Ibanez Musician MC924
Overview of this Ibanez Musician MC924
This is an instrument that is becoming rare!!
This Ibanez Musician MC924 from 1985 is one of the historical instruments.
Played by Sting in fretless version on « Can’t Stand Loosing You » or « Message In The Bottle » (The Police) (and most of The Police’s songs, in fact…), Adam Clayton, of U2 in « Gloria », « Tempe » or « With or Without You », other bassists used it extensively in the 80s (John McVie of Fleetwood Mac, John Entwistle of The Who, Mark Egan, Dee Dee Ramone, Mike Porcaro of Toto, among others).
The MC924 was born in 1981 and was replaced in 1986 by the MC2924 model.
This one arrived in good general condition for its age and has a small electronic defect.
Work completed
Here we are in for a big overhaul. So almost complete disassembly.
We start by repairing the electronic circuit and we move on to the hard part.
Complete cleaning, stripping, hydration of the fingerboard, crowning and check of the fret leveling of the frets, then polishing. Disassembly and stripping of the bridge before reassembly.
Finally, polishing, installation of new ropes (flat thread) and fine tuning…
It’s time to try…
Conclusion
Good. What can I say… If the greatest bass players of the 80s had fun on this instrument, there is a reason.
So of course, it’s a little heavy (well, it’s a bass, really…). But it sounds awesome. Great versatility of the microphones despite a rather typical sound. Vintage as you wish!
Excellent model. It’s messy!!
