Overview of this artisanal zither

This is a rare instrument!! It’s neither a bass, nor a guitar, nor a ukulele but the lutherie workshop Esprit Guitare does not shy away from the unexpected!! 😉

It’s a cithare. Instrument of Greek origin rather well known in Europe.

This artisanal zither, probably made in Mexico where it was bought as a souvenir by its owner, has aged quite a bit… Especially the strings.

Work completed

We start by dismantling and cleaning everything. The metal saddles are peeled off, cleaned and polished.

Then we put on new ropes. You need 8: one single and 7 doubles (they go back and forth).

We move on to tuning… There, a multitude of choices are possible. I chose a power chord drone on the three bass strings, then a pentatonic and finished with a chromatic.

Conclusion

It’s fun to play. It sounds surprisingly loud for such a small instrument and it’s very fun!
