Fender CD140 Guitar
The Esprit Guitare lutherie workshop received a visit from a Fender CD140 in very poor condition… The headstock is broken… Sad…
Overview of this Fender CD140
Well, the headstock is broken following a fall… That’s obvious.
The rest seems in fairly good condition and should not pose any particular problem. Note that the customer requests an adjustment with a lowered action.
Work completed
The first step is to glue this broken head back together and add the missing pieces of plating… Let’s go!
Quite a bit of adjustment work, considering the fine pieces lost, but a few hours of gluing and drying later, we can move on to the cosmetic stage. Here, given the average price of this guitar, it is not necessarily worth the cost of revarnishing which would make the repair invisible. So we just hide as best we can.
Then, we can move on to maintaining the neck, polishing the frets, cleaning and polishing the body, installing new strings (the customer requested a 12/52 gauge… that will take away from the repair…) and adjustment.
Major intervention on the bridge nut to lower the action and adjustment of the truss rod.
Conclusion
Result: the repair supports the strong tension, the adjustment of the action makes you forget the size of the strings and it sounds very round in the bass… A real pleasure 😉
The customer even left a great review ! Thank you 🙂
