Ouch!! It hurts to see a beautiful guitar in this condition!! This Beautiful Miguel Almeria was expensive!
That said, I was still surprised by the way it broke. It is a Spanish luthier guitar and we could hope for a construction worthy of this manufacturer. However, it was the table that was completely torn away. And upon inspection, the dams are largely undersized…
Work completed
The goal was to strengthen this somewhat light construction a little.
So I started by putting a layer of reinforcement (in wood) inside, under the easel. By providing cutouts for the thin dams, I was able to return to the height of the torn part in order to have a sturdy base for regluing the easel.
Then, a little cleaning of the broken edges and regluing under high pressure for 48 hours.
Another 48 hours of drying without pressure before re-tensioning and we are good for polishing the frets, a good cleaning and refitting new strings!
Conclusion
The added plate does not seem to have altered the acoustic qualities of the instrument and above all made it possible to stiffen the top to extend the longevity of this very beautiful guitar.
And it sounds great!! 🙂
