Lyre harp
A new addition to the Esprit Guitare workshop: the lyre harp or thumb harp.
Overview of this lyre harp
Yes, another surprise at the workshop with this unusual instrument, the lyre harp.
This one arrived in her pretty blue dress with a broken rope.
Work completed
The difficulty on this type of instrument is finding the right string gauge. Luckily, the one that was broken was 0.47. A folk guitar string did the trick perfectly.
Then comes the delicate moment of tuning. Yes, on these ultra short scales, the strings are very tight! And mechanics without reduction do not encourage exercise!
Conclusion
It is a very fun instrument, easy to carry everywhere. The sounds are lovely and the projection is rather astonishing for an instrument of this size. Small downside for beginners: you have to be very gentle with the tuning.
